Urban Week is an annual event at the University of Alberta, Urban Week runs from March 19th-23rd. There is a clear appetite amongst students at the U of A, particularly those in Human Geography and Planning programs, to invest time talking about their city, and its existing and planned development projects. This week will include events that further students’ professional development and education, including speaker panels, workshops, and lectures. There is a clear opportunity for students to learn about their cities from distinguished and educated professionals in the field, in addition to from their coursework. Urban Week will create this opportunity by compressing educationally valuable events into a single week to encourage a continuation of eye-opening discussion about our city. Urban Week also brings together a diverse range of groups and individuals, to cultivate their own impressions of the urban environment, and have it broadcasted to a larger audience.
The audience for this event is the entire University; a higher proportion of attendees can be expected to be those from Planning & Human Geography, but students from other programs (design, political sciences, earth sciences, etc.) are also expected to be amongst attendees. The events will be marketed to appeal to a broader demographic of students, while the week itself will be advertised amongst all faculties.
