Job or Opportunity Description: Pyriscence is a culture and politics blog (www.pyriscence.ca) based in Edmonton with readers from all over the world. We are looking for a student who would like to build their portfolio by designing a logo that can be used on the website, pins, tote bags, etc. The term pyriscence refers to the phenomenon wherein a seed can only be released from through heat or fire; the project of Pyriscence takes this natural process as a model for critique. The logo should include a pinecone and flame and possibly some kind of sprout, along with the word Pyriscence (below or wrapped around? we would need a file with the logo on its own and another with the logo and the title). It should be quite simple, clean, minimalist, and black and white (the pinecone allows for some nice geometric patterning). Pyriscence has a wide circulation and your work would be prominently displayed on the website and used for future merchandise. Although we have no external funding and are run entirely on a volunteer basis (both editors and contributors), we are able to offer a $50 honorarium. The application deadline is flexible but we would like it by early April when we are doing a website redesign; hopefully it will be simple enough to not take too long.

Estimated Compensation: $50

Application Deadline: 3/1/2018
