Position Title: Graphic Design & Education Technology Intern
Job or Opportunity Description:
The Graphic Design & Education Technology Intern is a member of the Residence Community Education and Leadership portfolio and coordinates the design of visual communication materials and the application of various technology tools, apps, and software to support training and student engagement. This coordinates blended learning training materials, including the online student staff training course and Residence Service’s Residence 101 virtual platform via eClass/Canvas.
The position also focuses on developing a visual identity and collateral to accompany staff training and online student orientation in residence, such as infographics, videos, and interactive elements of education modules that enhance learning and engagement. The position will also assist with using and developing online platforms for staff training and student engagement, such as eClass/Canvas, Articulate Rise, Campaign Monitor, social media platforms, and other apps and platforms. Furthermore, the successful candidate will also be responsible for designing various visual systems and applying them to various collateral for events and promotional campaigns. This includes logos, print material, and digital material.
This position is designed as an advanced student work opportunity for those interested in gaining experiences in graphic design, photography, video editing, and education technology in a student affairs context. The position will also work as part of the Residence Life Team in providing direction to the Residence Life program at the University of Alberta.

Position Duties
Support Residence Services Student Staff Training, which includes:
Designing collateral materials for student staff training based on a given theme which may include, but is not limited to, a logo, swag items, stickers, newsletter template, nametags, and a Google Slides template
Coordinating aspects of the online residence Student Staff training course, including enrolment, editing and uploading content according to subject matter expert feedback, and troubleshooting during training. Our online training course is based in the eClass and/or Canvas platforms, and makes use of Articulate Rise to present online interactive training content
Developing and updating online course materials, ensuring the course maintains a consistent style guide
Developing interactive activities with subject-matter experts within the online course modules to improve content retention and understanding
Coordinating the communication of scheduling for a two-week training program and other events to communicate complex, multi-day schedules
Developing new videos that enhance learning of online or classroom training content including storyboarding, filming, and editing video conntent
Developing and maintaining a friendly house point competition system amongst student staff to encourage engagement during the training program
Photographing training activities for future use in promotional materials
Coordinate elements of the online Residence 101 eClass/Canvas course, which includes:
Updating and editing existing content based on research, staff feedback, and current trends
Working with Orientation & Education Intern to develop a student engagement plan outlining how students will engage with the orientation course from before they move in to residence, until the end of the academic year
Storyboarding, filming, and editing engaging video content that supports the orientation content
Developing and implementing a plan to assess the engagement levels on Residence 101
Collaborate with the Residence Storyteller team as needed, including:
Assisting with the development and execution of social media content and engagement, including social media posts, stories, Instagram Lives, photography and illustrations for blog posts, etc.
Supporting the development and delivery of basic design, photography, or video training to student Storytellers as needed
Other duties such as:
Design and distribute informative and educational newsletters to residence staff using Campaign Monitor
Support the updating of UAlberta residence webpages and provide input on layout design
Design materials that visualize assessment data on the success of residence programing including, but not limited to, infographics, slide decks, charts, and graphs
Support the development and design of collateral materials and messaging for residence student staff recruitment campaign using the UAlberta Brand Guidelines, including, but not limited to, posters, newsletter graphics, photography, and social media content
Ensure that the public-facing visual communication design materials follow UAlberta’s most recent brand guidelines
Conduct research on the current use of technology in residence education and community building as needed, often focusing on potential online educational platforms and tools, mobile apps, and initiatives which may be implemented at other post-secondary schools, and might be beneficial to apply in residence at the University of Alberta

qualifications
Full-time student status at the University of Alberta in Fall 2026 and Winter 2027
Cumulative GPA of 2.5 from the 2025–2026 Fall/Winter semesters
Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills including public speaking and ability to demonstrate professionalism
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Ability to self-manage, and work independently with low supervision
Excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to manage projects, and prioritize work effectively
Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills
Two or more years of experience with Adobe Creative Cloud programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro
