IDEE is bringing free arts workshops to Amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton) next month and we want you involved!
IDEE (Innovate, Diversify, Educate, Empower), is a collaborative collective in the vibrant heart of so-called Edmonton. Our mission is to amplify underrepresented voices through art, culture, and connection. Funded this year by our partner organization, VIDEA, IDEE is working to create leadership and self-exploration opportunities through multidisciplinary art workshops and events. Our organization focuses on connecting with local creators and businesses who may have not had access to work opportunities due to societal barriers to entry, and allowing them a space to share their art and grow alongside their communities.
From November 10th to December 8th 2023, IDEE will be holding a series of six creative workshops open to youth ages 15-22. These workshops will lead a small group of participants through four classes and teach them an art discipline of their choice, with options including Hip Hop dance, Powwow dance, ceramics, collage, 2D & 3D art experimentation, and poetry/songwriting. By the end of the workshop series, students will have a final product which they will have the chance to share as part of IDEE’s multidisciplinary art showcase being held in early 2024 (date TBA), curated by the youth themselves.
There is no requirement for participants to have prior knowledge or experience of their chosen workshop art medium as these classes are meant to be as accessible as possible. Additionally, participants can use their time at the IDEE workshops towards 120 volunteer hours that may be required for work or school.
