Job Title: Exhibit/Industrial Designer (Junior)

Job or Opportunity Description: EXHIBIT STUDIO is looking for a Junior Exhibit/Industrial Designer to join our team and work on projects across various industries - trade show exhibits, museum/interpretive centres, experiential activations, retail, non-profit, corporate and more.

Our company offers full-360 services (design/fab/install), and we are looking for someone who is creative, energetic, hands-on and enthusiastic about working within a collaborative work environment. You will work closely with our design and fabrication teams, communicating your ideas to create a holistic, branded experience that integrates physical, graphic and digital elements. We want someone who is highly motivated, with innovative and functional design ideas, and adaptable to our different clients, their brand and their customers.

Responsibilities

Full-Time, 40hr work week, paid hourly.
Review project details and client requirements provided by the Art Director/Project Manager.
Develop concept sketches, and communicate ideas with the Art Director and Design Team.
Develop concept packages and/or provide assets to communicate design ideas to the Client.
Create 3D models and renderings to illustrate the design idea(s) and ensure fabricated displays are structurally sound and visually pleasing.
Develop shop drawings for internal and external production teams.
Set up CNC files for productions.
Communicate specification requirements for the graphic designer (internal/external).
Edit 3D models and shop drawings based on feedback from the Art Director, Client, and/or production teams.
Source materials and hardware for exhibit elements.
Inform Project Manager of completed tasks and communicate with the team of any changes.

Skills

1-3 years experience and at minimum a B.Des or B.A. Degree, preferably in Exhibit Design / Industrial Design. Will consider an introductory internship.
Ideation and sketching capabilities, with contemporary aesthetic and storytelling skills.
Passionate about innovative ideas, with a desire to develop design skills and learn new tools, techniques and abilities.
Understanding of basic millwork construction techniques.
Strong spatial visualization and orthographic skills to understand architectural drawings.
Well-versed in 3D CAD and rendering software (Rhino, Solidworks, Keyshot).
Capable of using Adobe CS programs (Illustrator, InDesign & Photoshop).
Ability to work both independently and collaborate with other team members.
Desire to bring forth and explore new ideas in a collaborative setting, with an understanding of mock-up/prototype methods.
Willing to take constructive criticism from Clients and the Design Team to further develop design ideas and skillsets.
Able to use various communication software (Google Meets, Zoom, Teams, etc.)
Able to learn project management software to update task/project status (google chat, monday.com)
Proven ability to produce high-quality, detailed work within tight timelines.
Good organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
Good listening skills to understand client requirements and design changes from the design team.
Must possess a professional and positive attitude.
